Pont Neuf, Paris, 1872 by Pierre-Auguste Renoir captures the oldest bridge across the Seine crowded with strollers, flower sellers, and horse-drawn carriages beneath a brilliant blue sky. Renoir painted the scene from a rented café balcony on the Right Bank in a single sitting, one of the defining early masterworks of French Impressionism, now held in the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.
