Renoir, the French Impressionist painter (1841-1919) known for his warm, luminous scenes of Parisian domestic life, painted the two sisters in the Paris apartment of his close friend Henry Lerolle, capturing their quiet companionship with the loose, richly worked brushwork of his later years.
