Yvonne and Christine Lerolle at the Piano, by Pierre-Auguste Renoir depicts Yvonne, dressed in white, playing the piano while her sister Christine, in a red dress, leans over the armchair to follow the score at her shoulder. Renoir, a French Impressionist painter (1841-1919) celebrated for his luminous scenes of Parisian leisure and domestic intimacy, painted the sisters in the Paris apartment of his close friend and fellow collector Henry Lerolle, rendering the scene with the soft, richly modeled brushwork of his late period.
