The Yacht Sappho of New York, c. 1871, by Currier & Ives depicts the racing schooner Sappho under full sail on rolling seas, departing Sandy Hook bound for Europe under the command of her owner, William Douglas, Rear Commodore of the New York Yacht Club. Currier & Ives, the celebrated 19th-century American lithography firm, produced this chromolithograph as a tribute to one of the era's most storied racing yachts.
