The Siesta (La Méridienne), 1890 by Vincent van Gogh – Classic Blue Edition

Sale price$39.99 USD
Frame Style:Standard 0.75"
Size:12x9"

The Siesta, painted by Vincent van Gogh in 1890, reimagines an engraving by Jean-François Millet, showing two farm labourers asleep beside a haystack at midday, their forms rendered in van Gogh's saturated complementary blues and golden yellows. Painted while van Gogh was a patient at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum in Saint-Rémy, the work reflects his enduring admiration for Millet and his empathy for the quiet dignity of rural labour. It stands among the most tender and luminous of his series of paintings after Millet.

Artist: Vincent van Gogh (Dutch, 1853-1890). Date: 1890.

The Siesta (La Méridienne), 1890 by Vincent van Gogh. Pastoral Figure Wall Art Canvas Print.

A note on this reproduction: this print renders in the classic palette, with light powder-blue smocks, golden wheat, and a clear blue sky.

Also available as a second edition: View the cooler, teal-green edition of The Siesta. Same painting, with a teal sky and seafoam-green clothing on the sleepers.

Also available as a third edition: View the lavender-toned edition of The Siesta. Same painting, with a violet-blue sky and lilac sleepers.

Also available as a fourth edition: View the deeper, warmer blue and amber edition of The Siesta. Same painting, with denim-blue clothing and amber-gold wheat.
