Le Canvas Atelier
The Marina at Argenteuil (Le Bassin d’Argenteuil), 1872 by Claude Monet
The Marina at Argenteuil (Le Bassin d’Argenteuil), painted by Claude Monet in 1872 gathers a cluster of moored sailboats along the Seine, their masts rising against a broad sky of scattered white clouds. A grassy bank shaded by trees runs down the left, where small figures stroll beside the bright, reflective water. Monet painted the scene at Argenteuil, the riverside town where he settled in the early 1870s and produced many of his defining Impressionist views of leisure along the Seine.
