The Chase, by William Ireland depicts two children running hand in hand along the shoreline as a black-and-white dog darts ahead beneath a scatter of seagulls. Painted in loose, sunlit brushwork in cool blues and violets, the composition captures the movement, light, and open rhythm of the sea; the original is catalogued as an oil on board by William Ireland, the Scottish colourist (1927-2015) who trained at the Glasgow School of Art.

Artist: William Ireland, 1927-2015. Date: not documented.
