The Bodmer Oak, Fontainebleau Forest (Un chêne au Bas-Bréau, le Bodmer), painted by Claude Monet in 1865 celebrates a single monumental oak spreading its canopy over a sunlit clearing in the Forest of Fontainebleau. Beneath the dense green foliage, flecks of golden light scatter across the russet forest floor, while slender saplings and cool woodland shadow frame the great trunk at the center. The young Monet painted this famous tree, named after the Swiss artist Karl Bodmer, while working near Barbizon, testing the plein-air observation that would soon carry him toward Impressionism.

Artist: Claude Monet (French, 1840-1926). Date: c. 1865.

The Bodmer Oak, Fontainebleau Forest (Un chêne au Bas-Bréau, le Bodmer), c. 1865 by Claude Monet. Forest Landscape Wall Art Canvas Print.

This edition is color-graded with deeper, richly saturated tones for a more atmospheric, gallery-like finish.

Also available as the first edition: View the bright, sunlit edition of The Bodmer Oak, Fontainebleau Forest. Same painting, with lighter, airier greens and a clearer sky.
