Snorkellers, by William Ireland is a large-scale composition capturing a man and woman gliding through clear, sunlit turquoise water, their bodies immersed within rhythmic ripples that radiate outward from their movement. Ireland (1927–2015) was a Scottish colourist painter trained at the Glasgow School of Art, known for richly worked water and garden scenes built up in loose, vigorous brushstrokes.
