Ripon Minster, by Thomas Hearne and William Byrne depicts the great Yorkshire cathedral rising above the River Skell, its Gothic towers seen past grazing cattle and a passing family on the riverbank. The plate was drawn by Hearne, the leading topographical draughtsman of his generation, and engraved by his longtime collaborator Byrne for their landmark series recording Britain's surviving monasteries, castles, and churches.
