Resting on a Girder, Rockefeller Center, 1932 shows a group of ironworkers stretched out on a steel beam hundreds of feet above Manhattan, the city and Central Park stretching into the haze below. The photograph was taken on September 20, 1932, during construction of the RCA Building at Rockefeller Center, as part of a promotional photo shoot staged for the developer. Reproductions of the image are commonly attributed to photographer Charles C. Ebbets, though several photographers were present that day and the precise authorship of individual frames from the shoot remains genuinely disputed among historians.
