The photograph was taken on September 20, 1932, during construction of the RCA Building at Rockefeller Center, as part of a promotional photo shoot staged for the developer. Reproductions of the image are commonly attributed to photographer Charles C. Ebbets, though several photographers were present that day and the precise authorship of individual frames from the shoot remains genuinely disputed among historians.
