Lake and Mountain, by Lawren Harris depicts a dramatic Canadian mountain scene rendered in the artist's signature stylized blue palette, with jagged snow-veined peaks rising above dark, simplified foothills and a still glacial lake. Harris, a Canadian painter and founding member of the Group of Seven (1885–1970), turned to the mountains and northern wilderness of Canada in the late 1920s, and this composition is believed to depict the Lake Louise area of the Canadian Rockies that inspired several of his best-known works from the period.
