Kaffee Hag, c. 1914, by Lucian Bernhard depicts a bag of coffee beans spilling across the composition beneath bold Gothic lettering advertising Kaffee Hag's decaffeinated coffee, rendered in the flat, high-contrast style of the German Sachplakat ("object poster") movement. Bernhard, a German-American graphic designer, was the pioneering figure of this style, which stripped advertising imagery down to the product and brand name alone.
