Je Ne Fume Que Le Nil, by Leonetto Cappiello shows a white elephant in a flowing orange cloak, its trunk curling skyward as if exhaling the brand’s name in smoke, set against a deep navy and teal ground. Cappiello (1875–1942), the Italian-born poster artist credited with modernizing early twentieth-century advertising, made this design for the French cigarette paper brand Le Nil, published by Joseph Bardou & Fils.
