Garden at Sainte-Adresse (Terrasse à Sainte-Adresse), 1867 by Claude Monet – Vivid Turquoise Edition
Garden at Sainte-Adresse (Terrasse à Sainte-Adresse), painted by Claude Monet in 1867 shows a flower-filled terrace above the Channel, where elegantly dressed figures rest among blazing gladioli and nasturtiums while two flags snap in the sea breeze. Beyond the fence, sailboats and steamships cross the sparkling turquoise water off the resort town near Le Havre where Monet spent the summer of 1867 with his family. The elevated viewpoint and crisp bands of terrace, sea and sky reflect his admiration for Japanese prints, and the canvas is now a highlight of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
