Effectus I, by Isabelle Z is built from vertical, wavelike bands of layered blue, from deep indigo to pale ice-blue, crossed by veins of gold leaf and broken by passages of bright white. Isabelle Z, a contemporary painter based in California who moved into multi-media abstract work in 2016 after a background in graphic design and advertising, uses fluid brushwork and metallic accents to give the composition a sense of motion and quiet luminosity.
