Dry-Cool Garden, by Paul Klee reassembles a terraced garden into interlocking planes of muted slate gray, dusty rose, cream, and terracotta, with each leaf, blossom, and furrow reduced to an angular, semi-abstract fragment. Painted in 1921, the watercolor reflects the Swiss-German artist's lifelong study of color and symbolic form, made the same year Klee joined the Bauhaus as a form-master.
Artist: Paul Klee (1879–1940). Date: 1921.
