City of Austin, the New Capital of Texas, 1840, by Edward Hall presents a bird's-eye view of the fledgling Texas capital along the Colorado River, its log cabins and civic buildings spread across Congress Avenue toward Capitol Hill. Hall drew the scene as the Republic of Texas's purchasing agent and consul in New Orleans, and the view was lithographed by J. Lowe for publication in Texas in 1840, or the Emigrant's Guide to the New Republic.
