Betsy Ross Cigar Label, c. 1923 by F.X. Smith's Sons Co. The label depicts an idealized portrait of Betsy Ross, the Philadelphia seamstress credited with sewing the first American flag, framed by a gilt wreath alongside vignettes of the Betsy Ross House and the Liberty Bell. Produced by F.X. Smith's Sons Co., a McSherrystown, Pennsylvania cigar manufacturer founded in 1862, the design reflects the patriotic, richly ornamented lithographic style used on American cigar box labels and advertising art of the early 20th century.
