Barei Exhibition Flowers III by Kōno Bairei

Barei Exhibition Flowers III by Kōno Bairei presents a solitary magnolia branch in bloom, its papery white petals and budding companions rendered in soft ink washes with minimal color, embodying the restrained elegance of Meiji-era kachō-ga. Bairei was a central figure in reviving traditional Japanese painting techniques during the Meiji period, publishing influential illustrated print compilations that shaped a generation of Nihonga artists.

Artist: Kōno Bairei (Japanese, 1844-1895).
