Barei Exhibition Flowers II by Kōno Bairei

Barei Exhibition Flowers II by Kōno Bairei depicts a cluster of iris blossoms rising among slender, crossing blade-like leaves, their violet and white petals rendered with fine linework against a quiet neutral ground. Bairei was a central figure in reviving traditional Japanese painting techniques during the Meiji period, publishing influential illustrated print compilations that shaped a generation of Nihonga artists.

Artist: Kōno Bairei (Japanese, 1844-1895).
