10th Cavalry Regiment, 1888, by Frederic Remington, depicts a mounted trooper of the regiment standing beside his saddled horse in open country, rendered as a black-and-white engraving in Remington's characteristic documentary style. Remington was an American artist (1861-1909) and one of the most celebrated chroniclers of the Western frontier, and he rode with the 10th Cavalry's Black “Buffalo Soldiers” on assignment for Harper's Weekly beginning in the mid-1880s, producing dozens of works recording their service.
