Painted in 1918 during Renoir's very last years at Cagnes-sur-Mer, Woman in a Landscape portrays a seated female figure dissolved into the warm, sun-drenched Provence countryside around her. The composition unfolds in the rose, coral, and golden ochre tones that defined his final palette, animated by the flowing, almost molten brushwork he developed despite severe arthritis. By this point Renoir was painting with brushes strapped to his hand. The work stands as a luminous testament to his unbroken devotion to beauty, completed barely a year before his death in December 1919.
