Diversi Globi Terr-Aqvei, c. 1730 by Matthäus Seutter arranges the world across two large hemispheres flanked by twelve smaller globes, each offering a different geographic and celestial projection of the earth, with California still charted as an island and Australia's coastline traced from Abel Tasman's seventeenth-century voyages. Seutter was one of the foremost German map publishers of the early eighteenth century, based in Augsburg, where he served as geographer to the Holy Roman Emperor and produced some of the era's most ambitious atlases.

Artist: Matthäus Seutter (German, 1678-1757). Date: c. 1730.
