Washington DC Potomac View, c. 1892 by Currier & Ives is a sweeping bird's-eye view of the young capital looking north from the Potomac, with the Capitol dome, the newly completed Washington Monument, and the city's diagonal avenues spread beneath an open sky. Currier & Ives, the celebrated New York print publishing firm, issued the view from a drawing by staff artist Charles R. Parsons, whose large-scale panoramic city views were prized by nineteenth-century collectors for their sweeping detail.
Artist: Currier & Ives (New York, active 1834-1907); drawn by Charles R. Parsons. Date: c. 1892.
