Antigua Guatemala, 1856 is a hand-colored engraving titled “Guatemala — The Ancient City,” published in the Illustrated London News on August 9, 1856, depicting the city's colonial main square with its cathedral, the Palace of the Captains General, and market stalls beneath the twin volcanoes of Agua and Fuego. The historic capital, now known as Antigua Guatemala, was Central America's colonial seat of government until earthquakes prompted the capital's relocation in the 1770s.
