View of the Post Office at Cagnes, painted by Pierre-Auguste Renoir in 1907, captures a hillside corner of the old Provencal village of Cagnes-sur-Mer, its tiled rooftops and pale stucco walls climbing toward the fortified old town above. The composition unfolds in warm terracotta, ochre, and silvery olive tones, animated by the broken, calligraphic brushwork of Renoir's late style. He purchased the nearby Les Collettes estate that same year and would spend his final twelve summers immortalizing this Provencal landscape.
Artist: Pierre-Auguste Renoir (French, 1841-1919). Date: 1907.
