View of the Post Office, Cagnes, by Pierre-Auguste Renoir looks out over the sun-warmed rooftops of a hillside village in the south of France, its ochre walls and terracotta roofs rising above a tangle of Mediterranean shrubs beneath a bright, cloud-scattered sky. Renoir painted the scene shortly after settling at Cagnes-sur-Mer, where the region's golden light and terraced hill towns became a recurring subject of his final years.
