Le Canvas Atelier
The Palette of Vincent van Gogh, 1890
Choose options
This is a reproduction of the actual paint palette used by Vincent van Gogh, its wooden surface still bearing the thick, unblended smears of oil paint from his final working sessions. The palette is best known from the account of his last days in Auvers-sur-Oise in 1890, when Van Gogh, having forgotten his own, borrowed a palette from Dr. Paul Gachet to complete a portrait of the doctor’s daughter at the piano. Preserved today as a rare physical record of his working materials rather than a finished painting, it offers an intimate, unmediated glimpse into the artist’s process and colour choices.
Artist: Vincent van Gogh (Dutch, 1853-1890). Date: 1890.
