The Houses of Parliament, Stormy Sky (Le Parlement, ciel d’orage), painted by Claude Monet in 1904 dissolves the Palace of Westminster into a blue violet silhouette, its Victoria Tower rising through churning storm clouds over the Thames. A burst of silvery sunlight pierces the sky and scatters across the river in shimmering flecks of pale gold and turquoise. The canvas belongs to the celebrated London series Monet began from the Savoy Hotel around 1900, reworked in his Giverny studio and unveiled to great acclaim in 1904.
