Under the Wave off Kanagawa, commonly known as The Great Wave, by Katsushika Hokusai, depicts a towering cresting wave threatening three fishing boats off the coast near Kanagawa, in present-day Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, with Mount Fuji visible small and still in the distance beneath the wave's curling crest. It is the most celebrated print from his series Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, created around 1831 during the late Edo period, and remains one of the most recognized works of Japanese art in the world.
