Painted in 1895 during Renoir's late landscape phase, The Glade (La Clairière) opens onto a sun-dappled forest clearing where bright meadow grasses meet the dense shade of surrounding trees. The composition unfolds in vibrant greens, golden ochre, and warm cream tones, animated by the velvety, fused brushwork that distinguished Renoir's mature manner. By the 1890s Renoir had largely returned to landscape after his experiments with classical figure painting, working in the woods around Essoyes and the Île-de-France with renewed warmth.
