The Branch at Croissy, painted by Pierre-Auguste Renoir in 1911 (Le Bras Vif à Croissy), depicts a quiet, tree-lined arm of the Seine near Croissy-sur-Seine, the same stretch of river where Renoir had painted his celebrated La Grenouillère scenes decades earlier. Rendered in his late, warmly atmospheric style, the composition dissolves riverbank, reflection and sky into soft, mingled color and fluid brushwork.
