The Studio Boat (Le Bateau-atelier), painted by Claude Monet in 1876 shows the artist glimpsed at work inside his little floating studio, moored among tall grasses in a quiet backwater of the Seine near Argenteuil. Veils of silvery mist soften the river and sky, while bursts of pink and copper autumn foliage blaze along the bank beside the boat's plain wooden cabin. Inspired by Daubigny's famous river botin, the studio boat let Monet paint the Seine from the water itself, and this canvas, now in the Barnes Foundation, is his most atmospheric portrait of it.
