The Bathers, a museum-documented painting Pierre-Auguste Renoir completed in 1887 after years of preparatory drawings, is presented here as a fine art canvas reproduction within its original academic nude tradition. The composition gathers three bathers at a riverbank in luminous pink, ivory, fresh green, and silvery blue tones, animated by the smooth, linear contour Renoir adopted after his study of Raphael and Ingres. Held today at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, it is considered the culminating statement of Renoir's classicizing period, marrying Impressionist color with Old Master figural tradition.
