Tama River in Musashi Province, by Katsushika Hokusai depicts a ferry carrying passengers across the Tama River as a lone traveler leads a packhorse along the shore beneath cherry blossoms, with Mount Fuji rising above the morning mist in the distance. Hokusai (1760–1849), one of Japan’s most celebrated ukiyo-e artists, created this scene as part of his acclaimed exploration of the mountain from everyday vantage points across the country.
