Still Life with Pears and Grapes (Nature morte, poires et raisin), painted by Claude Monet in 1880 heaps ripe pears, green and purple grapes and a few red apples across a rumpled white cloth strewn with fresh vine leaves. Monet builds the fruit from loose, glowing touches of green, gold and deep violet, the whole massed against a soft neutral ground. Painted at Vetheuil, the canvas brings his Impressionist handling of light and colour to the traditional subject of the harvest table.
