Still Life, painted by Pierre-Auguste Renoir in 1908, gathers a blue-and-white porcelain cup and saucer beside a small cluster of mandarin oranges with their leaves still attached, arranged on a plain white cloth. Renoir plays the cool blues and whites of the china against the warm orange fruit, his brushwork loose and fluid in the manner typical of his final productive decade. The painting later entered a Glasgow collection and today hangs in the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, a modest but luminous late example of Renoir's enduring interest in the still-life tradition.
