Stacks of Wheat, Sunset, Snow Effect (Meules, Effet de Neige, Soleil Couchant), painted by Claude Monet in 1890-91 shows two snow-covered grainstacks standing in a frozen field near the artist’s home in Giverny, their dark conical forms wrapped in strokes of blue and violet. A blazing orange sunset burns along the horizon while cool lavender shadows spread across the snowy meadow. The canvas belongs to Monet’s celebrated Grainstacks series, whose triumphant 1891 exhibition in Paris marked a turning point in his career.
