Spring, Fruit Trees in Bloom (Arbres Fruitiers en Fleurs), painted by Claude Monet in 1873 captures an orchard of blossoming fruit trees on a sunlit green hillside near his home at Argenteuil. White and pale pink blossoms shimmer against fresh spring grass and a soft, hazy sky, rendered almost entirely through delicate touches of color. Painted during Monet’s celebrated Argenteuil years, this canvas became the first work by the artist to enter the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
