Snow Scene at Argenteuil (Rue sous la Neige, Argenteuil), painted by Claude Monet in 1875 looks down the snow-covered Boulevard Saint-Denis near the artist’s home, where bundled figures trudge along a rutted road beneath snow-laden trees. Monet weaves the whole scene from closely related tones of blue, gray, and white, letting the heavy winter sky melt into rooftops and drifts. It is the largest of some eighteen views he painted of Argenteuil under snow in the winter of 1874-75, and it now hangs in the National Gallery in London.
Artist: Claude Monet (French, 1840-1926). Date: 1875.
