The Banks of the Seine at Champrosay, 1876 – Pierre-Auguste Renoir Wall Art | Impressionist River Canvas Print
Choose options
Painted in 1876 at the height of Impressionism, The Banks of the Seine at Champrosay (Les Bords de la Seine à Champrosay) looks out across the river toward the gentle slopes of the Île-de-France south of Paris. The composition unfolds in cool blues, fresh greens, and warm ivory tones, animated by the rapid, broken brushwork Renoir had refined in the years surrounding the first Impressionist exhibition. Renoir painted the canvas while visiting the writer Alphonse Daudet, whose country home stood at Champrosay near the Forest of Sénart on the Seine. The work hangs today at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris and stands as a luminous testament to high Impressionist landscape painting.
