The Seine at Argenteuil, painted by Pierre-Auguste Renoir in 1873, looks across the wide, glittering river just downstream from Paris, where sailing boats drift beneath a pale, cloud-streaked sky mirrored in the water. Renoir worked this stretch of the Seine in close company with Claude Monet that summer, and the canvas is built from the same rapid, broken brushwork and cool blue-green palette that came to define early Impressionism. The painting now hangs in the Musée d’Orsay, a luminous touchstone of the movement’s founding year.

Artist: Pierre-Auguste Renoir (French, 1841-1919). Date: 1873.

The Seine at Argenteuil (La Seine à Argenteuil), 1873. Impressionist River Wall Art Canvas Print.

A note on this reproduction: this print renders in warmer, more golden tones, with an amber-tinted sky and richer ochre highlights along the riverbank. A cooler, more muted reproduction of this same painting is also available in our collection.
