Schooners at Anchor, Key West, by Winslow Homer depicts loaded fishing schooners resting at anchor in the pale turquoise waters off Key West, Florida, a rowboat carrying three figures crossing the harbor in the foreground beneath a hazy, sun-warmed sky. Winslow Homer (1836–1910), widely regarded as one of the greatest American painters of the nineteenth century, made this watercolor in 1903 during his winter visits to Florida and the Caribbean, a late-career period that produced some of his loosest, most luminous work.
