Rosserk Abbey, County Mayo, Ireland, c. 1842 by William Henry Bartlett depicts the atmospheric ruins of a Franciscan friary on the shores of the River Moy, its solitary tower and gothic windows rising above grazing sheep and a misty estuary landscape. Bartlett, an English topographical artist celebrated for his detailed steel engravings of the British Isles, Europe, and North America, produced the view for The Scenery and Antiquities of Ireland, capturing the Romantic-era fascination with ruin, history, and landscape.
