Riverbank at Lavacourt (La Berge à Lavacourt), painted by Claude Monet in 1879 follows a dusty riverside path through the hamlet of Lavacourt, where tall dark trees rise above low cottages and villagers pause along the way. To the right the Seine slips quietly past toward pale, hazy hills under a soft summer sky. Monet knew this stretch of river intimately, painting Lavacourt again and again from his home at Vétheuil on the opposite bank during the difficult years of 1878-81.
