Recumbent by Joshua Schicker

Recumbent, by Joshua Schicker is built from layered rectangular fields of rust, ochre, and warm cream, crossed by a horizontal band of deep teal and navy blue with a small accent of golden yellow in the upper right. Schicker, a contemporary painter whose abstract work draws on the color and texture of the Southwestern American landscape, uses overlapping color blocks and scraped, weathered surfaces to build a composition that reads as both architectural and atmospheric.
