Rebel Works in Front of Atlanta, Georgia, 1864-1865 by George N. Barnard shows a field gun on its wheeled carriage beside a canvas tent within the timber-reinforced earthworks that defended the city, beneath a pale, open sky. Barnard (1819–1902), an American photographer, documented Atlanta's fortifications after the city's capture, and the work was later published in his 1866 album Photographic Views of Sherman's Campaign.
