Railway Bridge at Chatou, painted by Pierre-Auguste Renoir in 1881, looks across a sunlit bend of the Seine toward the iron railway bridge at Chatou, its structure glimpsed through billowing chestnut trees in pink and white bloom. Renoir builds the scene from loose, broken color, fresh greens, dusty yellows, and a pale lavender sky, in the fullest flowering of his Impressionist technique. Chatou, just outside Paris, was a favorite Renoir painting ground where the modern railway met open countryside, and the canvas is held today in the Musée d'Orsay, Paris.
Artist: Pierre-Auguste Renoir (French, 1841-1919). Date: 1881.
Railway Bridge at Chatou, 1881 (Le Pont du Chemin de Fer à Chatou) by Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Impressionist Landscape Wall Art Canvas Print.
A note on this reproduction: this print renders in warmer, hazier tones, with a soft lavender-mauve sky glimpsed through the chestnut trees and gentler, more muted greens in the foliage. A cooler, more saturated reproduction of this same painting is also available in our collection.
