Quai du Louvre, Paris (Le Quai du Louvre), painted by Claude Monet in 1866-67 looks down from a balcony of the Louvre onto a bustling quay filled with strolling Parisians, horse-drawn carriages and freshly leafed trees along the Seine. Across the river, the rooftops of the Left Bank stretch toward the domed silhouette of the Panthéon under a soft spring sky. One of Monet’s earliest views of Paris, the canvas ranks among the very first Impressionist cityscapes and inspired painters such as Caillebotte and Pissarro.
